the
recordings
Peppermint Superfrog is the electric and exciting new
album from Man Bites God. The band have mixed
together punk, electronica, rock and pop to create an
album that is fast moving and fun, with lyrics that
are surreal, quick-witted and quickly delivered.
Peppermint Superfrog is an explosion of garage band
rock, synth-pop and complete absurdity. The album’s
title track and first single is a grungy Japanese
punk affair with nonsensical lyrics and a very catchy
chorus. Other topics include building a girlfriend
out of wood, seeing religious iconography in soup,
beating butterflies to death with hammers and the
enviable lives of monkeys.
The Popular Alternative is an upbeat and soulful
collection of songs with a stripped back, acoustic
feel. The album features guest vocal performances by
Deborah Conway, New York rapper Matt Sax and a
children’s choir. The lyrics cover Man Bites God’s
usual eclectic subject matter with healthy doses of
black humour and satire. There are songs about the
trials and tribulations of being the work experience
kid, scientific fashion tips, strippers, the Pope and
a few warped and dark love songs. There have been
three singles released from the album: the ninja love
song “Bride of the Dragon”, the soaring pop
masterpiece “Cubby House” and most recently, “Win At
All Costs”, Man Bites God’s Commonwealth Games
anti-anthem. The songs have received great popular
and critical support and have received a lot of
airplay on 3RRR, 3PBS and SYN FM among others.
Man Bites God was the band’s first album and is a
jangly Beatle-esque pop/rock affair that contains
lush arrangements and Man Bites God’s typically weird
and unexpected subject matter. There are upbeat,
catchy tracks about shapeshifters, cross-dressing
superheroes, gnomes with chainsaws and a love affair
with a shower curtain, to name but a few. The song
“Spelling Bee Girl” from the album received extended
airplay nationally, including Triple J.
In addition Man Bites God have released three EP’s;
Happy Songs, Ultrasounds and Boobjob for Sweetie Pie.
